a short weekend

friday afternoon when I came home from work the weekend looked pretty glem... both the boys were sick and had been to the dr... i walked in and travis gave me the run down of meds for everyone : antibiotics, cough and congestion, and steriods
YAY what fun i was thinking ... i was very disappointed because we (the boys and i) had planned on going to my parents for the weekend but it looked like our plans had changed...and i was not looking forward to travis going out of town till thursday while i was at home with 2 sick kids! i text my many prayer warriors and said please pray!!!
GOD is good because both boys woke up saturday morning bouncing off the walls! needless to say i told the boys to get dressed because we are going to gigi's and tractor's!
i knew that going out of town would help off set the fact that travis would be gone for almost a week, so when i discovered that the boys were well enough to go i threw everything in a bag and hit the road!
so we got there about 11 on saturday and we got to spend lots of quality relaxing and fun time with my parents... i can not wait till they move closer and i tell them this often hoping it will speed up the process.
now i am back home and dreading starting this work week... it is the week before TAKS and we all know what that brings and on top of that travis is out of town AAAHH!!! but i am going to think positive only 5 more days till my scrapbooking getaway!! i love my girlfriends!!!

my new workout

Well, I broke down and bought an elliptical machine. Travis saw it at goodwill and it is in great condition! I only paid 50$ for it, that part I was really excited about. After trying the gym and never making it very often I gave in.
I told Travis that it would really be nice to have something here at home that I could do even when he was not here and/or the boys were awake. I know sounds complicated but if you are a mom you will understand that having kids with you and working out don't really work out!
So we got it Saturday night and of course Sunday i couldnt workout because it is the sabbath and we are suppose to rest. (the only time I have really taken this literally!) So Monday rolls around and Travis is working, I sit the boys in front of the TV like the good Mom that I am and tell them Mommy is going to exercise. (I was thinking that they could watch one cartoon and then I would be done..HAHA!!) They promptly jumped up and ran down the hall... of course they HAD to see this!
So, with an audience .... I get on and slowly begin. After about two minutes I come to a complete stop. Lane ask me "momma are you okay?" as I was huffing and puffing I replied "yes, Mommy is just fat and out of shape." Lane then begins to run in place and says "I can do it fast I am not fat!" gotta love kids!!!
I was very disappointed! I only lasted about two minutes!!! How sad is that! I didnt want to tell anyone at first (I know you are thinking why did you???) but I had to find out if I was the only one having this much trouble. Well several of my friends confirmed that elliptical machines are very hard... I love my friends!
I was way too sore to try and do it again Tuesday... I know pathetic! So I waited till Thursday. I want everone to know that I beat my record I now can last three entire minutes!!! I cannot tell you how excited I was! I will beat my goal again in two days, slowly but surely I will make it to double digits!

Conversations with Riley

This afternoon we all came home switched into our comfy clothes then Travis and the boys layed down for their afternoon siesta. I snuck in to the toy room and got on the computer.
Evidently Riley was not oo tired becauise he climbed out of bed and joined me in the toy room. He asked for hot chocolate so i made it.. gave him two cookies and sat down with him at their little table in the kitchen.
We started talking as he nibbled on the cookies and eventually he said "here momma you can have these" ... they were still intact but I told him we would save them for Lane. He promptly replied and said "or we could take them to the cookie monster on Sesame Street" i said well do you know where seasame street is? very confident he answered all the while moving his arms to give me directions..."yes.. if you go down the road and take a left... now which way is left momma? ..... then you go up a really big hill and then turn right... which way is right? oh yeah.... then you go up another hill it is big too.. then turn around and you are there..."
I was trying so hard not laugh while he was telling me this... he is so serious and gets his feelings hurt if even thinks you are not taking him serious...
I sat across from him thinking that he still so little ... literally... and I just want to soak in all the little details about him. How he moves his arms and lifts his eyebrows as he talks... so many things to remember... I love my little cutie pie!!!

still alive

Well, I had the best of intentions when I started this blog business but have not kept up with it... what can I say life is extremely busy. My plan is to write on the weekends so that I can fill everyone in on our sooo interesting lives from the past week! So yes we are alive ... we are just surviving right now...

One thing really exciting that has happened is Lane is starting to read!!! Being a teacher and mom this is huge for me.... now if I can just help him to keep the love for reading. I love to read and want my children to love it too!!! Travis well... he is getting better.... Travis use to pick up a magazine every now and then.... but I think his long hours at the firestation have caused him to learn to enjoy it even more.

Anyway, Lane is really doing a great job at decoding and recognizing words!!! He reads every night and is becoming less and less frustrated and wants to try more! I am so proud of him. :)

The best and worst part of being a mom is watching your kids grow! You just want them to stay little sometimes.

Going back...

Well, school started back and let me just say I have very mixed feelings. I am glad to be back into a routine...well trying to get back into a routine..but also miss staying up late and taking naps in the afternoon with the boys.
Last night I pulled out the calendar and Travis I sat down together to mesh schedules. We have to do this every once in awhile just to make sure we will get to see each other a day or two out of the month ... LOL ... because Travis is a fireman and also on the Texas Task Force - trainings, other jobs and church activities all have to be carefully coordinated.
So, after examining the calendar I saw that we have breaks in every month except February. Knowing this I can feel much better about early rushed mornings and crazy sleepless nights! With a few breaks in between SUMMER is on its way!!
That you Lord for June, July and August!!!!

I just have to add how cute my Riley is....

Today while talking with him he ask "Momma am I five yet?"

Me - "No not yet" -thinking to myself you just turned four at the end of november

Riley- "Man, it takes a lloooong time to be five."

I thought this was too cute!!!

here is a picture of my little rascal:

a FULL year!!

as i was sitting and watching towmater and the ghostlight, for the third time in a row, with the boys i was thinking about all that has happened this year. here is a run down of all the big moments for us good, bad or ugly and in no particular order:
  • i went from working at the early childhood lab to fredonia elementary - an awesome move for me!! that whole experience taught me lots but one important thing was that i can be happy and enjoy life
  • lane played tball for his second season in a row and loved it, riley got to play too on the side -the coach was really gracious and let him practice with the team, it is hard sitting out and watching big brother play
  • we had a great summer and were able to relax and enjoy family and friends
  • lane turned five!! we had a knights party at the house - the castle cake was pretty awesome if i do say so myself
  • travis was promoted to captain!!!! - i am so proud of him
  • lane started kindergarten!! i know i can't believe my baby is already in school
  • riley started attending a new school - the methodist preschool - it was hard leaving sonshine but he loves it now
  • we had lots of fun times at wet creek with gigi and tractor - sliding down the hill like a slip and slide, swimming in the kiddie pool (well that was just the boys) and watching old movies
  • Nanny's 80th birthday party
  • tyler my nephew turned one!!!
  • travis was deployed with the texas task force several times - including hurricane ike
  • riley turned four - he had a superhero party at the church - it was a hit!
  • we were all four in kelsey and liz's wedding
  • we went to DISNEY WORLD and DISNEY CRUISE with granny and pawpaw - loads of fun!!!! the boys are already asking when we can go back!
  • i had foot surgery three days before christmas - not so much fun : (
  • christmas here at home with the boys - Santa brought scooters and lots of other goodies!!!

looking back our year has been very eventful and FULL of good times!!! i thank GOD for giving us another happy and healthy year and for the new one to come! Happy New Year!!!

my3ringcircus

My life at times can be a 3 ring circus!!! Many people who know me, know that our house can be a little crazy at times. Having two boys and a husband who are always on the go can prove to be challenging. Travis loves to exaggerate this a little, of course when others are around and especially when the boys are being their normal rambunctous selves. From day one of having both the boys at home from the hospital he has commented that we have a three ring circus!
I have to agree with him on this one! He claims I am the ringmaster. I'm not sure that I am always the one in charge but I do like that thought! As many of you know I sometimes have control issues. (Like many teachers and moms do)
Life is always fun and full of suprises around our house!! So here I will begin to journal about some of the exciting things happening in our lives. I love to scrapbook so I am hoping that this will help to remember just what was happening when. As the ringmaster I can't always promise a thrilling show but do know that life is good and we can't wait to see what is around the corner!
